Dr. John Sorrick
Hello. My name is Dr. John Sorrick, Ph.D., and if you are considering Sorrick counseling, there are a few things you should know about me.
I believe in taking steps – taking the steps to create the brand new beginning that YOU want. Even for myself, the move to Rochester is about taking steps in a relationship, and a chance to “practice what I preach.”
I have dedicated over 30 years to the profession of mental health. Those 30 years consist of eight years in a juvenile correctional facility in Topeka, KS, as well as much additional education related to school psychology, and now 25 years in private practice in Grand Junction, CO, Lee’s Summit, MO, as well as Rochester, MN.
I have the training of a psychologist and the heart of a Christian. My deep spiritual convictions, as well as my upbringing on a working farm south of Topeka, KS, make me a unique doctor who specializes in expert testimony, psychological evaluations, individual therapy, marriage counseling, and custody work to name a few. At the current time, I have in excess of 38,000 clinical hours. My Bachelor’s Degree is from the University of Dubuque, Iowa. My Master’s Degree is from Emporia State University in Psychology. My Ph.D.is from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, OH, in Clinical Psychology. I have been a nationally certified doctor for over 15 years, and have been state licensed in various states since 1992.
I have worked with over 600 marriages, and have appeared as an expert witness in over 25 court cases ranging from disability to custody or protecting clients against the Department of Family Services. With an attorney as a co-partner, I have successfully completed 51 divorces, and worked as a mediator since 1995, closing all mediation attempts but one. For six years, I was the owner of the second largest mental health clinic in Western Colorado with Dr. Saul Tompkins. I have taught graduate school at Colorado Christian University, and have been an adjunct professor at Regis College in Denver, CO. I have been sought out as a speaker on many topics related to marriage, death and dying, personal growth, and male issues.
Along with being nationally certified, I am a member of the American Psychological Association, and a member of the American Counseling Association. Furthermore, I have been the owner of my own private practice since 1991. I am the author of a book entitled Yours or Mine? Determining the Best Interests of the Child, and have used my years of effective learning to stand in the gap for children’s needs in Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri. It is my passion to dedicate my life to the mental health field, and to help people cope through the most demanding portion of their lives.
Please call to set up an appointment. I look forward helping you with your journey.
